An alarming ring: buzzes on your finger to wake you up

From engadget:

"The simply-titled "Ring" sports an alarm clock dock with two times and a pair of wearable hoops, which enables you to wake up at a different time than your third-shift-workin' SO. Moreover, the elastic vibrating rings are donned at night, and simply provide a constant buzz to get your attention rather than wrecking your rest with a piercing array of beeps."
Simple, elegant, and even practical!
Here's another pic illustrating uses for this alarm.

Reverse alarm clock: helping kids let parents sleep

Pic: The moonset and sunrise calculator controls a "sky display," illustrating time in a way that young children can understand by using images of the sun, moon and stars. (Credit: Image courtesy of Carnegie Mellon)

"Science Daily — John Zimmerman, an associate professor in Carnegie Mellon University's School of Design and Human-Computer Interaction Institute, has developed an unconventional alarm clock every new parent needs — a clock to keep their children sleeping. Called the Reverse Alarm Clock, the product aims to keep young children from interrupting their parents' sleep. "

Complete with bedtime music, wake up music, and simple icons (moon, sun, stars) to let the child know when they should still be sleeping, when they can get up but not interrupt the adults, and when it's time to get up for the day.
As long as the child cooperates, this can be a simple, useful tool until they are old enough to recognize numbers.

Daylight saving time changes this year. So much for Halloween...

Totally sucks for taking toddlers trick or treating on Halloween, since it'll be that much later until it's dark out.

Date change in 2007
On August 8, 2005, President George W. Bush signed the Energy Policy Act of 2005. This Act changed the time change dates for Daylight Saving Time in the U.S. Beginning in 2007, DST will begin on the second Sunday in March and end the first Sunday in November. The Secretary of Energy will report the impact of this change to Congress. Congress retains the right to resume the 2005 Daylight Saving Time schedule once the Department of Energy study is complete.
